Tofino w/Kate March 07

Katie O came thru Vancouver
and we took off to Vancouver Island

Ferry from Horse Shoe Bay

Timmy Hoe’s was our companion in our drive across the island

Great forest in the middle of the island

Reach for the sky

Hmm… where do I put my hands?

Lakes in the middle of the island

Finally the Pacific side and time for Kate’s Balancing act on Long Beach

Sometimes they get big waves out here

…Ahh.. the beach

Cox Bay

Open spaces

Starfish

Tiger Mussels – apparently from Japan

and water … Run away!

Beach doobawackies

The Excitement was too much!

A beautiful setting

Full of boardies taking on the cold

We preferred our feet

Beach net

Our home for the night
Long Beach Resort as the rain cleared

The moon popped out

The sun went down

And set beautifully

For what seemed like an hour

....

Just out the front of our room

What more is there to life …

How’s that for a finish!

When I mentioned we were taking a float plane to our next destination, Kate almost lost it …

In the air with the Kate’s nails removed from my arm, the view was great

Nth of Tofino - nothing

Not a lot of room to move
Especially when U pick up a drunk native

It felt great to be on the land again – or at least out of the sky
The landing was scary as …. But we lived and …
We arrived at our home for the next two nights – the Innchanter

  • Innchanter

  • The boat has lots of neat rooms such as the library room

To avoid any other tourists we were shown the hidden route to a secluded beach

    Beautiful woods and skies

    The beach ..covered in wood

    … and rocks

    Selfie

    Climbing the rocky coast

Rocks aren’t always the best seats

After letting the daily rabble go and a little dinner w/ cookies, we took the boardwalk to the hot springs

As the sun again came down

    The woods light up

And we made the springs for sunset along with the boat captain
who provided our fish dinner and Sean our host

    Katie ..

… dave … just to prove we were there

We made home in the dark – one scary walk thru the forest at 10pm

The next morning we took off early to beat the mob – a little chilly

Names of fishing boats on the boardwalk

But we received - Private springs

    .. and rock shower

Which helped us great the early morning light

With a view of the ocean

    + solitude

    Steam drifted by

    Mirror pools

    That mixed with the ocean

    The source

Back on board – the main room

Native art - A raven watched over us

    Kitchen coffee

Check out those gulls – big eh

It was cold and besides the pools their ain’t much too do, if U don’t want

    Besides, the sky looked great

We apparently thought it was funny

    View down the dock

    View off the dock

    Time for a quick read

Then off to the Rock pools

Where we took Dinner off the rocks

    Rock Mussel Market

Still time for a dip before dinner
Amazing how comfy rocks can get

… especially with a shower next door

The view off the hot springs

    With another sunset

Our final day saw Slave-boy Dave and Captain John take us for a ride

Seemed like a good occasion for a selfie

We dropped john on some rocks (just) and then we headed out

To the Native village across the water

We hiked slippery logs to a great lake

    Then another deserted beach

From the village we were escorted by Sam
He just figured out where we were headed and lead the entire way

    A proud young man

The inquisitive Dave searched for things Japanese

Moon Beach – site of an old earthquake

    Rugged

    The Earthquake path

Back and then off - Sean belly waves goodbye

Captain John took us whale watching on the way back

He threw in some sea lions

Then we drove back through the rugged center of the island
    .. not a bad long w’end
